The Map of Berth

I don’t know how many people, if any, still subscribe to Humans and Other Myths, so this might go out to no one…  But recently I’ve been working on something that has to do with this little world I created and making a map (which I had plans to do a long time ago) became necessary.

So here it is.  This map is actually a hundred or so years BEFORE the events of Humans and Other Myths, but a lot of the places haven’t really changed.  This is around the time that Agos’s great grandfather was out and about and you might notice that Fauns,Centaurs, Minotaurs etc don’t have their own cities/villages marked, just areas.  All the cities that are marked are Elven or Dwarf.

Humans and Other Myths Comes To An End

I’ve been struggling with this for some time now and unfortunately it’s time to pack up and call it a day.  I simply haven’t felt the enthusiastic passion I once felt for it.  It’s a story that’s been with me for a long time so I don’t hate it and I know that it’s a great story worth telling, I just don’t have it in me to tell it right now or any time soon for that matter.  I know this comes as a disappointment to many of you, but seeing how the updates have been going lately, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

At the moment I have to try and fry other fish.   There’s projects that I’ve been  more invested in for longer and need to see to the finish and it’s also time to find something that works, something that clicks into place and feels right.  Because to be honest, I recently read through Humans and Other Myths and while I see the whole picture and know where things are going, the story has been put together half heartedly and the art is mediocre at best. Not really something thats ready to explode onto the market.

Fantasy has always held a place in my heart so I’ll more than likely return to the world of Berth someday, and tell the stories of Ina, Huxley, Pee-tur, Rolf and Agos, but I have no idea when.

Sincerely,

-Scott-

Xander – The Adventures of a Boy and his Dog in the World of Dreams.

First of all… wow what a title, huh?

As a kid one of my all-time favorite comics was Nemo in Slumberland. For those of you not in the know… FOR SHAME!  Off to Google with you. Go on! We’ll wait…

… Okay. You liked what you found, huh?  Now since then, characters going on adventures in their dreams has been a reoccurring theme. Some have been excellent stories, some have not. Recently my wife told me about

a webcomic that I might be interested in so I checked it out. I’m glad I did. This falls into the excellent category.

As the title says, it tells the adventure of a young boy named Xander who “wakes” up in a dream with his pet dog. Without spoiling too much, it soon becomes apparent that all is not right, for Xander isn’t transparent as the other “dreamers” of this dreamland and he has to find out how to get back.   The story, written by Taylor Machink, is only at 30 pages so far, but it kept me captivated the whole time. I instantly liked the characters and the world that Taylor is building. The art, by Ian Sean Gibson,  is very pleasing on the eyes and actually reminds me of storybook art from my childhood. I found the whole package very heartwarming, which is saying a lot in this day and age.

I know there are a few other comics out there that have similar themes, but they always end up nosediving to the same mold as every other webcomic.  Adding ingredients that just scream kissing up to what fans want.  I hope Xander can avoid this, because as of now it’s truly one of my favorites!

Go check it out at Xander – The Adventures of a Boy and his Dog in the World of Dreams.

Yup, we’re skipping an update (Monday the 9th) because I’m putting together a submission package and every time I sit down at the computer… I put my time into it. But if all goes as it should we’ll continue normally from the next Wednesday update.
